A museum of one’s own
Let’s inhabit the museum! What if we could feel at home in a museum?
One of the pillars of Open Museum is to ensure that everyone feels welcome in the Brussels museums. This also applies to neurodivergent visitors, for whom museum visits can sometimes be stressful and uncomfortable. To make museum visits more enjoyable and accessible for this audience, Open Museum is organising the training “A museum of one’s own” on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 November, in collaboration with artist and podcaster Léonore Frenois. In this training, we will explore the challenges of neurodiversity in museum spaces.
On the agenda: (re)thinking our exhibitions through the lens of universal design, so that everyone can find their place and feel welcome. We will address these themes through movement, physicality and sensory experiences, and together we will reflect on concrete ways to enrich our practices.
Through participatory and fun exercises, you will co-create a toolkit, while discovering the testimonies of people concerned about their museum experiences. Finally, you will be introduced to podcasting as an innovative mediation tool and participate in relaxation sessions with artists from Créahm Brussels.
