Open Museum launches new website: a redesigned tool for inclusion in Brussels museums.
New digital momentum for a committed initiative
Since 2018, Open Museum has been working to make Brussels museums inclusive, participatory and representative of the diversity of our society. Carried by Brussels Museums, the federation that brings together more than 125 museums in the Brussels-Capital Region, the initiative has a completely redesigned website to support cultural professionals in their transition towards inclusive practices.
An initiative serving a socially sustainable museum sector
Open Museum is based on a strong belief: culture is a societal choice. It must therefore be accessible to all. As well as opening the doors of your museums, invisible barriers — whether economic, social, symbolic or digital — must also be broken down, as they still prevent too many people from feeling legitimate in these spaces.
Through the “5 Ps” — People, Public, Place, Programming and Partnership — Open Museum provides concrete support to Brussels museums institutions on several levels:
- Inclusive HR policies;
- A welcome adapted to all audiences;
- Spaces redesigned for physical and digital accessibility;
- Representative cultural programming;
- Sustainable partnerships with actors rooted in civil society.
Open Museum positions itself as a space for listening, exchange and support, guiding museums with methodological tools, training, and tailored assistance.
A fully revamped website to better support you
With this redesign, Open Museum focuses on the “P” of Place — understood as both physical and digital space — to become a true resource centre for museum professionals engaged in an inclusive approach.
Here is what you can now find there:
- Numerous free and practical tools to start or deepen your inclusive journey, or to assess your current practices.
- Inspiring content on the practices of other museum professionals, to fuel your thinking and projects.
- A directory of local non-profit organisations, with field expertise and close ties to Brussels’ communities: key partners to co-develop projects or organise tailor-made training.
- An agenda of the training offered by Open Museum.
This new website reflects Open Museum’s renewed commitment to making the Brussels museums sector equitable, representative and human. It is designed as a living and evolving tool, in line with the challenges and aspirations of today’s museum world.
Welcome to the new Open Museum website.
